RESUME

Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın serves as the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Acıbadem Fulya Hospital. He completed his medical and specialization education at Istanbul University and has been practicing neurosurgery for 41 years. Additionally, he has played a pioneering role in the training of more than 100 young neurosurgeons, and many of his students are currently serving in leading universities, public institutions, and the private sector throughout Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın has contributed unique techniques to the field of neurosurgery. Among these techniques are the preservation of ligamentum flavum in lumbar microdiscectomy, unilateral approach for complex spinal pathologies with bilateral decompression, lumbar and thoracal microdiscectomy with ligamentum flavum protection, and contralateral cervical microdiscectomy, extrafacetal microdiscectomy for farlateral extrusions.

Furthermore, he has performed significant surgical interventions, including AVM surgery in over 450 patients, clipping of more than 2800 aneurysms, and over 1200 endonasal pituitary surgeries, according to numerical data.

His education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine includes a doctoral degree and a specialization program in Neurosurgery. Post-specialization, he continued his education in various fields such as Stereotactic Surgery Techniques, Care of Intensive Care Patients, and Percutaneous Discectomy.

He has also held visiting professor positions at numerous universities and hospitals worldwide. Among his professional memberships are the Cushing Neurosurgical Society (CNS), Association of American Neurosurgical Surgery (AANS), and the Turkish Neurosurgical Society (TND).

His areas of expertise include minimally invasive surgery, complex degenerative spine diseases, aneurysm and AVM surgery, skull base tumors, pituitary tumors and cerebellopontine angle tumors. Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın is well-known as a prominent figure in the field of neurosurgery.

He collaborated with Prof. Dr. Gazi YAŞARGİL in Zurich.

For a Comfortable Future in the Spinal Cord

Spinal cord health is the key to your life.

In today's advancing modern medicine, human life expectancy is gradually increasing, leading to a more frequent occurrence of spinal canal stenosis associated with aging. Problems arising in the spinal joints due to various reasons negatively impact an individual's quality of life.

Spinal canal stenosis occurs when the spinal cord is compressed, leading to numbness and weakness in the legs. One of the first Turkish doctors to recognize this condition was Prof. Dr. Münir Ahmet Sarpyener. In 1945, Sarpyener made a significant contribution to the field by publishing a scientific article on spinal canal stenosis in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery

For this disease identified by a Turkish physician, we have been using the Yunus Aydın retractor, designed for microdiscectomy 33 years ago, along with high-speed drills, air pressure-based Kerrison, and advanced microsurgery to access the spine through a single-sided window, relieving the nerves from compression. Over the past 23 years, we have positively contributed to the quality of life of nearly five thousand patients, most of whom are elderly and experiencing walking difficulties.

In these surgeries, we have not used any foreign materials, saving patients from the late complications of foreign metal-induced adjacent segment disease. Additionally, by avoiding the use of expensive materials, we have provided economic benefits to social security institutions.

Dr. Yunus Aydın and his team have been closely following the Turkish surgical experience and contributing to spinal canal stenosis for many years. Accumulating significant expertise through a high number of surgeries, we continue to maintain our specialization in this field.
